SME-City project was funded by the European Commission and looked at whether ‘anti-social behaviour’ is a real problem in city centres; how this is seen by different kinds of people and what can be done to reduce these kinds of problems.
The aim of the project was the implementation of innovative actions, methods and tools to study and prevent crimes committed in urban areas by young people under the effects of alcohol and drugs. The methodology of the project was based on private-public target partnerships (municipalities, law enforcement bodies, NGOs, private commercial and social services). Involving different type of sectors and actors the project contributed to the prevention of crimes, raised awareness of potential offenders and potential crime facilitators. It established an European focus group on juvenile and urban crimes prevention research and study through a multi-disciplinary, multi-agency and participatory approach.
